Сombating election misinformation in the run-up to the EU election
The Mohyla School of Journalism is hosting a research seminar by British researcher Melisa Basol for graduate and doctoral students. Melisa Basol is an analyst and researcher of prebunking campaigns against misinformation. In collaboration with government and technology sectors, she has played a key role in expanding successful prebunking initiatives across more than 20 markets, with a particular focus on combating election misinformation in the run-up to the EU Parliamentary election and addressing disinformation in conflict zones and the Global South. Dr. Basol is also the co-developer of ‘Go Viral!’, an award-winning game designed together with the UK Cabinet Office to counter COVID-19 conspiracies, which has reached an audience of over 2 million people across more than 10 languages. Her research portfolio includes innovative strategies against misinformation, the ethical use of AI, and the promotion of human-centric technology innovation. As a trusted advisor to the EU Commission, OECD, and NATO, Dr. Basol continues to contribute to the development of evidence-based policies and actively engages the public on platforms ranging from BBC World to TedX.
